Electrically driven nanogap antennas and quantum tunneling regime

Abstract The optical and electrical characteristics of electrically-driven nanogap antennas are extremely sensitive to the region where fields tightly confined electrons photons can interplay. Upon injecting in nanogap, a conductance channel opens between metal surfaces modifying plasmon charge distribution therefore inducing an tuning gap resonance. Electron tunneling across be harnessed induce broadband photon emission with boosted quantum efficiency. Under certain conditions, energy emitted exceeds electrons, this overbias light is due spontaneous hot electron electrode. We conclude potential electrically controlled for faster on-chip communication.
